Mets Morning News: More extra innings, more outfielder injuries

Meet the Mets

Although the calendar flipped to June on Sunday, the script remained the same between the Mets and Phillies. Another game was played into extra innings, and the Mets triumphed 4-3 on the strength of a Lucas Duda two-run homer in the top of the 11th. Jon Niese's eight strong innings have been lost to the sands of time.

Juan Lagares was forced out of the game in the 10th inning with an oblique injury. The center fielder was sent back to New York on Sunday night, where he has an MRI exam scheduled for this morning.

Matt den Dekker is reportedly set to join the big club again should the Mets move Lagares to the disabled list, which is expected to happen prior to Monday's series finale. den Dekker had been demoted on Sunday to make room for lefty swingman Dana Eveland.

On a lighter note, Marlon Byrd somehow broke his bat without making contact with the ball.

Paul Lo Duca is now a horse racing analyst.

Around the NL East

The Marlins were swept by the Braves over the weekend, and now Jarrod Saltalamacchiahas a concussion.

The Nationals demolished the Rangers on Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday Washington was shut down by Yu Darvish.

Around the Majors

The Red Sox have called upStephen Drew from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Likely heading back down to the minors is Garin Cecchini, the older brother of Mets prospect Gavin Cecchini. Garin made his major league debut with the Red Sox on Sunday and went 1-for-2 with a double.

White Sox slugger Jose Abreu has missed the last two weeks with an ankle injury, but he'll reportedly be activated in time for Chicago's Monday night game against the Dodgers.

In other injury news, Tampa Bay's Wil Myers was placed on the DL Sunday with a wrist sprain.

The Blue Jays kept on rolling with a 4-0 victory over the Royals. Mark Buehrle became the first MLB pitcher to 10 wins this season, and Edwin Encarnacion hit a home run even though it is no longer May.

On this date in 1994, the Mets drafted Paul Wilson with the fifth overall pick in the MLB Draft.
