LAS VEGAS 4, EL PASO 3 (Box)

The story of this game is the potential breakout of Cesar Puello, who had three hits including his first home run of the season. If Puello can return to his 2013 form it would be an incredible boon to a system that is bereft of prospects who are capable of contributing to the big league club via their bat. We're a long way from declaring Puello "back" but tonight, coupled with the past few games, is certainly a step in the right direction.

You've got to hand it to Darin Gorski, he is good at double-A baseball. Last night he struck out six and walked none while allowing just one run over six innings as Binghamton beat Altoon 3-2. Home runs from Brian Burgamy and Cory Vaughn paced the offense and Cody Satterwhite closed out the final 1.2 innings to lower his ERA to 0.82.

This game was postponed due to rain but not before Domingo Tapia allowed seven runs on 10 hits, three of which were home runs. I don't like to get too down on guys in this space, although I've definitely been guilty of it, especially with Tapia. Ted Berg tweeted out that a comment that had recently been posted to a blog post he put up over two years ago. I recommend reading it, if only because it will make you feel things. I'll continue to write what I think and how I feel, but I don't want to lose site of the fact that these are people who are trying to make their dreams a reality.

*Correction* They ended up completing this game. St Lucie lost 10-5.

This game was canceled due to rain, so they'll play a double dip tomorrow. However, there was good news related to the Sand Gnats:

Champ Stuart is a guy I am excited about, although I admittedly have not seen him in person. I did rank him in my top 25 prospects prior to the season (a list I'm okay with in retrospect, but I would really like to swap Casey Meisner for Jack Leathersich. Having seen Leathersich, his stuff does not match up with the extreme K-rate. Another name I would like a do-over for; Domingo Tapia.) Stuart brings some serious athleticism and he plays CF, so if he hits he has a chance to be special. For more on Champ, head over to Toby's write up of him from February.

Cesar Puello, come on down. It's been a slog of a first half for Puello, but he has been putting things together lately, particularly since he came back from his Biogenesis-related absence earlier this month.
