The Mets recalled the hard-throwing lefty.
The Mets have announced that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Josh Edgin from Triple-A Las Vegas. With the news of Kyle Farnworth being cut and Jacob deGrom having to make a start, the Mets were in need of bullpen help going into tonight's game. This will be Edgin's first stint in the majors this year after appearing in 34 games each of the past two seasons.
In February, when I previewed Edgin, the Mets were in desperate need of left-handed bullpen help, with only Scott Rice pitching from the left side. Although Edgin has quality stuff, he was better against right-handed batters than left-handed batters last season. Still, there was optimism around Edgin as he had reduced his fly ball percentage, and his slider appeared to be improving.
Edgin has been the cause of some concern in Las Vegas, pitching to the tune of 4.97 ERA. His walks are up and strikeouts are down, as well; however he has also had some bad BABIP luck which may have contributed to his poor numbers.
