The Mets prevailed in a brutal, snail-paced contest to take both games in the Bronx segment of the Subway Series and their sixth in a row from the Yanks.
The Mets got off to a fast start in their Bronx finale, scoring four times in the top of the first, with three coming on a trademark Curtis Granderson at Yankee Stadium longball. This was the last time the word "fast" could be applied to this game, as both starters struggled with control and worked at the pace of molasses. The Bronx Bombers immediately struck back with three of their own in the bottom of the first against a shaky Zack Wheeler. The Mets did their best to pitcher-proof their lead, scoring once in the third, twice in the fourth, and four more times in the fifth. The biggest blow was a three-run shot by Daniel Murphy high off the foul pole in right that put the Mets up by a score of 11-4. Wheeler failed to make it out of the fifth inning, but Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched 3 2/3 innings of what passed for decent relief to earn the win.
Full recap to come.
