TACOMA 4, LAS VEGAS 9 (Box)
With the scheduled starter scratched just hours before the game, Joel Carreno stepped in and pitched admirably, allowing three runs over 5.2 innings, which is better than a quality start in the PCL. It was more than enough for the 51s, who received multi-hit games from the recently demoted Omar Quintanilla and Josh Satin (hail?) on their way to scoring nine runs. Allan Dykstra delivered the big blow in the bottom of the second, a three-run bomb that put the 51s up for good. Cesar Puello got the start and delivered a single, double, and a walk in four plate appearances. Let's hope this is the start of him turning his season around.
Roster Update: The Mets have moved Jenrry Mejiato the bullpen and are calling upRafael Montero to fill his place in the rotation. The Mets also placed Gonzalez Germen on the DL and called up Jacob deGrom, who looks like he will be used out of the bullpen. While it's always good to see the big prospects get called up, a part of me is sad to see Montero and deGrom leave this space, kind of in the same way it's happy/sad to send a child off to college (I, uh, presume).

Gabby Ynoa finally had a really good outing in his seventh start of the year, striking out six and walking none over five innings as he led the St. Lucie Mets to victory last night. Ynoa's had a rough go of it to this point; he entered the night with a 6.16 ERA, 4.99 strikeouts per nine, and 3.23 walks per nine. The outing last night will certainly help with all of those numbers and hopefully get him back on track.

What is there to say about this game? The only run was scored in the bottom of the 10th on a walk-off walk that was preceded by a two-out double, an intentional walk, and an unintentional walk. The lesson, as always; intentional walks are bad. This game was played in Charleston, who apparently has an MiLB.tv feed, so I was able to catch a few innings. My amateur analysis says that Jeff McNeil is a very skinny human being. Dom Smith is not. His entire mid-section is thick. On the field, I saw him field a chopper cleanly but pulled the short stop off of second with his throw. At the plate, I saw him out in front of a few pitches before rolling over one to second. The Sand Gnats are back in Charleston tonight looking to salvage a split. The game will again be on MiLB.tv for those interested.
