Final Score: Phillies 5, Mets 4—The losing streak continues

The Mets have lost five in a row and eight of their last nine.

The Mets lost to the Phillies again on Saturday night. Dillon Gee got off to a bad start, allowing a couple of runs in the first inning, but David Wright tied the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame. But Gee allowed another run in the third inning on a Jimmy Rollins home run. He kept the Phillies from scoring any more runs through the sixth inning, and the Mets were able to take the lead in the bottom of that inning on a David Wright double and Eric Campbell pinch-hit sacrifice fly.

But the Mets' bullpen coughed up the lead, as Scott Rice gave up a game-tying double to left-handed-hitting Chase Utley in the seventh and Kyle Farnsworth gave up the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run on a Ryan Howard single in the ninth. The Mets' best opportunity to take the lead had come in the bottom of the eighth, with David Wright and Curtis Granderson starting the inning with back-to-back singles against Mike Adams. But Terry Collins had Chris Young sacrifice bunt the runners over, even as Adams struggled to throw strikes, and the Mets ultimately failed to score.
