Eric Campbell has taken Satin's place on the Mets' roster.

After starting the season as one side of the Mets' first base platoon, Josh Satin has been optioned to the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s to make room for Eric Campbell on the Mets' roster. Like Campbell, Satin played in the minors for a long time before getting a shot in the big leagues. In 283 career plate appearances with the Mets, Satin has hit .250/.350/.361.

Last year, Satin excelled as a part-time player, hitting .279/.376/.405, but he got off to a very cold .107/.265/.179 start this year in 34 plate appearances. It would be foolish to write him off as a major league player permanently, but the Mets are understandably trying something new, as the team has struggled mightily at the plate so far this season.

Whenever Campbell gets into a game, it will be his first as a major league player. The 27-year-old utility-man tore the cover off the ball, even by the lofty standards of Las Vegas, as he hit .355/.442/.525 in 163 plate appearances there this year.
