Final Score: Phillies 3, Mets 2—Mets leave a win stranded in scoring position

Mets pitchers had a good night overall, but the team's lineup did not.

The Mets had plenty of opportunities to score runs on Friday night but managed to plate just two in an eleven-inning loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. The team is now 16-18 on the season and has won just one of its last eight games.

Jenrry Mejia avoided any meltdown innings in his start but lasted just four-and-two-thirds innings because of a high pitch count. He gave up two runs on six hits, and he struck out four but walked three. The Mets' bullpen kept the Phillies in check from there through the tenth inning.

The Mets scored once in the first before loading the bases with one out and failing to score any more. They wouldn't score again until David Wright hit a game-tying double in the bottom of the eighth. And they didn't score again after that. In total, the team left fifteen runners on base and went 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

To top things off, it was Marlon Byrd who doubled in the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run against Carlos Torres in the top of the eleventh inning.
