The top of the Miami Marlins offense led a furious comeback to defeat the New York Mets 4-3. Nathan Eovaldi was tagged for two home runs but struck out a career-best 10 batters, and Casey McGehee played a major role in the team's walk-off win.
The Miami Marlins and New York Mets will tangle again in the final three-game series of the home stand. The Fish will send out Nathan Eovaldi to the mound again, as Captain EO will look to continue his run of success against the equally surprising Jon Niese of the Mets.
Pitching Matchup
PROJ ERA | FIP | ERA | MARLINS | Mets | ERA | FIP | PROJ ERA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
3.82 | 2.19 | 2.58 | Eovaldi | Niese | 2.20 | 3.59 | 3.86 |
The two pitchers on the mound tonight are having surprising seasons to start the year. The difference is that there seem to be real changes in Eovaldi's game so far in 2014, while Niese appears to be the same guy he has been since he started his career in New York. Both are good pitchers at likely around similar levels, making for a strong matchup.
Lineup
The Marlins give Derek Dietrich, Garrett Jones, and Marcell Ozuna rests and start Ed Lucas, Jeff Baker, and Reed Johnson in their steads. Jones sitting against the lefty is a nice look for Miami, while Ozuna gets a deserved break from the action after starting almost all season.
Bobby Abreu somehow is still starting on a Major League team in 2014. Amazing.
