Game 1

PORTLAND 2, BINGHAMTON 3 (Box)

It's been tough to get games in against Portland so far this season (there have been three rainouts so far in 2014 against  the Sea Dogs), so they played two on Saturday. Binghamton's bats were assigned a tough task in the the first game, as they would have to do their work against lefty Henry Owens, Boston's number five overall prospect according to Baseball Prospectus. The B-Mets got the scoring started in the bottom of the second after a Cory Vaughn single and a Jayce Boyd walk. Travis Taijeron singled home Vaughn and Wilfredo Tovar did the same to Boyd for an early 2–0 lead. That would be all for Binghamton until the bottom of the sixth when Owens would unravel. With the score locked at two, Owens plunked Matt Clark, allowed a double to Kevin Plawecki, and then allowed Clark to scramble home for the winning run when he uncorked a wild pitch. Darin Gorski cruised through five innings, but made it interesting in the top of the sixth. After two one-out runs had been plated, he recorded the final two outs of the inning with the go-ahead run sitting at second base. Chasen Bradford climbed the bump in the seventh to get the save, but not before putting the win in peril. With one out in the books, he loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. But Bradford bared down and coaxed Mookie Betts to fly out to left and Deven Marerro to line out to center for his fifth save of the season.

Advanced-A - St. Lucie Mets (16–13)______________________________________

Game 1

ST. LUCIE 2, BRADENTON 3 (Box)

St. Lucie managed only four hits off of Marauders' starter John Kuchno in game one. The Mets got off to a promising start, plating two runs in the top of the first for the early lead. But that would be it for the scoring, as Kuchno and Bryton Trepagnier shut down St. Lucie's bats for the next six innings. Domingo Tapia got the start and pitched well enough to win, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk. The game was tied at two runs apiece when Ryan Fraser came in for the bottom of the seventh. Fraser recorded the first two outs with ease, striking out Jin-De Jhang and getting Jonathan Schwind to ground out to first. Fraser then walked the bases loaded, and with the game on the line, he uncorked a wild pitch and the winning run scampered home.

Luis Cessa had his strongest start of the season, as he struck out six in five innings of one-run ball. Aderlin Rodriguez plated two runs in the first inning on the strength of his double, and T.J. Rivera delivered the final blow in the seventh with a two-run single to make it five to one in favor of St. Lucie. Randy Fontanez pitched the final two for his fourth save. Cessa's first win of the season won the series for the Mets, and pushed their overall record against the Marauders to 3–3.

Low-A - Savannah Sand Gnats (19–8)______________________________________

ROME 2, SAVANNAH 12 (Box)

The Sand Gnats extended their winning-streak to five on Saturday, and clobbered the Rome Braves in the process. After the Braves put up a run in the top of the first on Savannah right-hander John Gant, the Gnats scored in each of their next four frames. They put up three in the bottom of the first on the strength of Stefan Sabol's two-run double with the bases loaded, and then an ill-timed wild pitch. After a run-scoring single by L.J. Mazzilli in the second, Savannah made it 7–1 with a three-run third. Jeff Glenn singled home a run, and Gavin Cecchini singled in two more. The Sand Gnats took it to 11–1 in the fourth when Victor Cruzado, Dominic Smith, and Jeff McNeil all doubled to drive in four. Gant picked up his third win of the season, tossing five innings of one-run, five-hit ball. Chris Flexen will toe the rubber on Sunday to try to extend the Gnats' winning streak to a season-high six games.
