Bartolo Colon got shelled for 10 hits and 7 runs, and Rockies starter Juan Nicasio pitched seven innings and drove in three runs as Colorado routed the Mets. Travis d'Arnaud collected his second home run of the season in the ninth inning, and Juan Lagares had two doubles in his return from the DL.
The Mets hoped to keep their momentum going after a rain out postponed their game in Philadelphia last night. Pitching for the Mets, Bartolo Colon was coming off of a solid seven inning, one-run ballgame against St. Louis. Due to the rainout, Colon found himself facing a potent Rockies offense instead of a struggling Philadelphia lineup. Facing Colon was Juan Nicasio, the Rockies #5 pitcher who was coming off of a 4.1 inning, 5 earned run thrashing at the hands of the division rival Dodgers.
In a classic demonstration of "past results don't guarantee future outcomes," the Rockies pummeled Colon for seven runs, while Nicasio held the Mets shut out through seven innings. The Mets scattered three hits against him, collected by Juan Lagares, Chris Young, and Lucas Duda, but were unable to develop any sort of offensive rally against Nicasio.
The Mets' first run came in the eighth inning. With two outs, Bobby Abreu, pinch hitting for Gonzalez Germen, drew a walk and was driven in on a Juan Lagares double. The Mets would make things interesting in the top of the ninth, scoring three runs on a two-out home run by Travis d'Arnaud, his second of the season. The Mets were unable to further close the gap and lost.
The Mets will try to even the series tomorrow night when Zack Wheeler faces Jorge de la Rosa.
