Miami Marlins starter Jacob Turner will be activated from the disabled list to face the Dodgers on Saturday night at Marlins Park. A right shoulder strain plagued Turner in several early starts.

After appearances by both Kevin Slowey and Brad Hand in the Marlins' rotation, starter Jacob Turner will be activated from the disabled list in order to make a start on Saturday night against the Dodgers at Marlins Park.

Turner was placed on the disabled list on April 9th with a right shoulder sprain that had reportedly began giving him trouble. The 22-year-old right-hander is expected to be a key part of Miami's future rotation, and his success is essential because of the fact that he is out of options. Command has been a struggle in the past, and in his first and only start of the year, he gave up five runs to the Colorado Rockies.

On April 7, the day before he was set to pitch at Washington, he took batting practice in the cages with the pitchers. During one round, he felt discomfort in the back of his throwing shoulder after taking a swing.

When Turner went on the disabled list, Brad Hand and Kevin Slowey each made two starts to fill the rotation spot.

"The rotation, overall, has been throwing well," Redmond said. "I think we scrambled there initially when we had some spot starts, and trying to find guys to fill that role while Jacob was gone.

Beyond Jose Fernandez and Nathan Eovaldi, the Marlins' rotation has been rather consistent. Aside from the temporary struggles of Henderon Alvarez and the lack of success from Slowey and Hand, Miami's pitching staff has kept them in games early.

Hand was initially inserted into the rotation when Turner went down, but a pair of poor starts against the Washington Nationals landed him a spot back in the bullpen. Like Turner, Hand is out of options but gives the Marlins necessary left-handed pitching depth.

Slowey struggled in his last start against the Mets, giving up five runs, but the Marlins' bullpen was able to ensure that Turner's absence wasn't completely felt.

In a rehab start on Monday night, Turner gave up one run and struck out seven in seven innings.

What the Marlins do to make room for Turner on the 25-man roster is to be determined. The organization may designate Slowey for assignment, after Carter Capps was promoted upon the demotion of Arquimedes Caminero. But regardless of the corresponding moves, should Turner return and throw strikes consistently every time out, Miami's rotation would benefit greatly.
