Mets Player Performance Meter: Position players, Week 4

The Mets weren't exactly on fire at the plate over the past week.

The Mets have hit .218/.296/.318 this season, numbers that translate to a 78 wRC+, which is tied with the Cubs for the second-worst mark in baseball. But they’ve managed to score four runs per game on average, just barely below the National League average of 4.01. By Fangraphs’ baserunning metric, they’ve been pretty good on the bases through April 27, like they were last year, but the team will have to hit better than it has to keep winning games.

This week’s meter covers the seven games the Mets played at home over the last week: four against the Cardinals and three against the Marlins.

Bobby Abreu, OF--Back in the big leagues for the first time since 2012, Abreu went 2-for-10 without any walks or strikeouts. The hits were a double and a home run, though, good for a .600 slugging percentage on the week.
Travis d’Arnaud, CDon’t look now, but d’Arnaud keeps getting better. In five games, he hit .375/.444/.500. Two weeks ago, he had a .495 OPS on the season, and he’s now up to .618.
Lucas Duda, 1BIt was a pretty pedestrian week for Duda, who hit .227/.292/.409 but hit a home run and a double and drove in four runs in the process.
Curtis Granderson, RFBelieve it or not, Granderson’s .136/.296/.136 line is an improvement over last week, but it was still not good by any means. Perhaps a road trip that’ll stop in Colorado will get his bat going.
Juan Lagares, CFLagares is still on the disabled list, but he started a rehab stint and could be back with the Mets soon.
Daniel Murphy, 2BIt was a good week at the plate for Murphy, whose .814 OPS was second to only Travis d’Arnaud over this stretch. He drew four walks to match his four strikeouts, something he doesn’t do all that often.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis, OFWhile he didn’t hit much in his seven plate appearances, it’s hard to get too down about a guy who barely played.
Omar Quintanilla, SSQ hit a cool .286/.286/.286, but one of those singles was a pretty big one.
Anthony Recker, CAfter coming out of the gate quick, Recker posted a .393 OPS in three games, two of which were starts, this week.
Josh Satin, 1BIn his lone appearance for the week, Satin went 0-for-3 (bad) with two walks (good). He hasn’t done much on the year but still has just 19 plate appearances.
Ruben Tejada, SSHe only went 3-for-14, but Tejada managed a .389 on-base percentage and made a couple of very good plays at shortstop to make up for the lack of hits.
David Wright, 3BThe Mets are 14-11 despite Wright’s lack of performance thus far. Coming off a good week, he hit just .154/.207/.192 in these seven games.
Chris Young, OFYoung made too many outs, but he hit a couple of no-doubt home runs, too.
Eric Young Jr., LFYoung had just a .250 on-base percentage for the week, which mostly explains why he had just a couple of stolen bases.
