Noah Syndergaard started strong, dropping the hammer on three of the first four batters he faced. He gave up a run in the third, though he pitched himself out of a jam by freezing Rainiers designated hitter Julio Morban with a change to end the inning. Thor faced more trouble one frame later, serving up a meatball to a player rather fond of cleaning his plate, Jesus Montero. All told, Syndergaard needed 96 pitches to get through five innings, but on the plus side, he did strike out a season-high six batters (four swinging) in the process.
Offensively, Andrew Brown made a case for another cup of coffee with the big league club. The outfielder slugged a seventh inning homer that, unlike his Opening Day blast, proved to be the margin of victory.

Advanced-A - St. Lucie Mets (13-8)______________________________________
ST. LUCIE 13, BRADENTON 4 (Box)
Brandon Nimmo, Aderlin Rodriguez, and the rest of the St. Lucie Mets keelhauled the Marauders for the second night in row. Were he eligible for the organization's bases per out bonus, Nimmo would've had a lucrative day at the plate. The wondrous Wyomingite tallied five bases (two singles, three walks) against one out made (he was caught stealing in the third). By conventional statistics, Aderlin Rodriguez put up the most impressive line, knocking in six on the strength of a grand slam and a bases-clearing double. That offensive barrage put Michael Fulmer, twirler of five shutout innings, on the sunny side of a blowout for a change.
Also of note, St. Lucie batted around in the bottom of the eight, which helped pinch runner Gilbert Gomez score twice without ever taking an official at-bat.

Robert Gsellman was gsensational for the Gnats yesterday, striking out seven over seven innings en route to a rain-shortened complete game. The 2011 draftee didn't walk anyone and, aside from allowing a pair of extra-base hits in the fourth, never faced any real run-scoring threats. L.J. Mazzilli granted Gsellman all the support he'd need with his first homer of the year. Coming around to score on the blast was Jeff McNeil, who had a perfect day at the plate.

The red-hot McNeil cooled off slightly for game two of the twin bill, getting on base in only three of his four plate appearances, but the rest of the Savannah offense picked up the slack. Stefan Sabol set the pace with a first inning grand slam, while Jared King and Colton Plaia chipped in RBI doubles. While it didn't drive in a run, Dom Smith connected for a two-bagger as well, his first extra-base hit of the year. Gnats' starting pitcher Miller Diaz wasn't quite as precise in the nightcap as his rotation mate was during the opener, but he did fan more batters (8) than he let reach base (6).

On a normal night, Brandon Nimmo would walk away with his honor. That said, Jeff McNeil, your current Sally League leader in extra-base hits, punished Lakewood pitching like a monarch gone mad with power.
