Triple-A - Las Vegas 51's (14-5)_______________________________________
EL PASO 4, LAS VEGAS 5 (Box)
The 51s picked up Logan Verrett behind home runs from Eric Campbell and Taylor Teagarden, the former of which capped a comeback from a four run deficit. The bullpen combined for 5 IP, H, 0 R, 0 BB, and 7 K. Cesar Puello played right field and led off...now that he's no longer blocked by 40-year-old Bob Abreu? Hopefully he'll see more regular playing time going forward.
- RF Cesar Puello: 2-4, R, 3B
- LF-3B Eric Campbell: 2-4, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI
- SS Wilmer Flores: 0-4, K
- 1B Allan Dykstra: 0-2, BB
- 3B Zach Lutz: 0-0, E; Removed from the game after the second inning. Unclear what the cause was, although it's not difficult to imagine an injury.
- LF Anthony Seratelli: 1-2, R, BB
- CF Matt den Dekker: 0-3
- 2B Danny Muno: 0-3
- C Juan Centeno: DNP
- RHP Logan Verrett: 4 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 0 BB, 5 K
- RHP Vic Black: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K
- RHP Jeff Walters: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, K
Double-A - Binghamton Mets (9-6)_____________________________________
PORTLAND 7, BINGHAMTON 4 (Box)
Tyler Pill gave up five earned in 5.1 innings as Binghamton dropped the opener of their four game series with the first place Portland Sea Dogs. This tells you everything you need to know about Pill's season thus far: the five runs in 5.1 innings pitched actually lowered his ERA. The recently profiledMatt Reynolds went one for three with a walk, bringing his slash line to .380/.446/.440, which is nice. Jayce Boyd showed signs of breaking out with a double and two walks. He came into the night hitting .174/.255/.261.
- CF Darrell Ceciliani: 1-4, 2B, K
- 1B Brian Burgamy: 1-4, R, 2B, RBI, K
- C Kevin Plawecki: 0-4, K
- IF Matt Clark: DNP
- DH Jayce Boyd: 1-2, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K
- OF Cory Vaughn: DNP
- 2B Matt Reynolds: 1-3, R, BB
- RF Travis Taijeron: 0-3, R, BB, K
- SS Wilfredo Tovar: 0-4
- RHP Tyler Pill: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 5 ER, BB, 4 K
Advanced-A - St. Lucie Mets (10-7)________________________________________
PALM BEACH 4, ST. LUCIE 5 (Box)
St. Lucie completed the organizational sweep of the Cardinals Monday night, beating Palm Beach 5-4 behind five eighth inning walks that forced in the tying and go-ahead runs. Luis Cessa pitched not great, allowing four runs over six innings while walking three and striking out just two. Jake Kuebler tossed two scoreless before handing it off to Randy Fontanez, who pitched a perfect ninth to seal the win. Brandon Nimmo had two hits as well as a walk and a strikeout (of course). He's absolutely killing it right now. I wouldn't mind seeing some more pop but I would be an idiot to complain. TJ Rivera continued to crush, going three for four with a double and a walk.
- 2B Dilson Herrera: 0-3, 2 BB
- DH Brandon Nimmo: 2-4, R, 2 RBI, BB, K
- 1B T.J. Rivera: 3-4, R, 2B, RBI, BB
- 3B Aderlin Rodriguez: 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI
- C Cam Maron: 0-2, R, 2 BB, K
- 2B Phil Evans: 0-4, K
- RHP Luis Cessa: 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Low-A -Savannah Sand Gnats(10-5)__________________________________
SAVANNAH 10, DELMARVA 5 (Box)
Home runs from Jeff McNeil, Jared King, and Stefan Sabol powered the Sand Gnats to a 10-5 win over Delmarva last night. McNeil has been bright spot on this Savannah squad in the early goings. His 6:5 strikeout to walk ratio is reminiscent of Kevin Plaweck and Jayce Boyd last year. Dom Smith was able to knock a couple of singles, which is bound to happen when you're putting the ball in play as much as he is, albeit weakly. He matched his two singles with two walks, so an encouraging night for the youngster.
- SS Gavin Cecchini: 1-5, BB, 2 K
- 3B Jeff McNeil: 3-6, 2 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI
- 2B L.J. Mazzilli: 2-6, 2 RBI
- LF Jared King: 2-5, 2 R, 3B, HR, RBI, BB
- DH Stefan Sabol: 1-4, 2 R, HR, RBI, 2 BB, K
- 1B Dominic Smith: 2-3, 2 R, 2 BB, K
- CF Patrick Biondi: 1-5, R, RBI, K
- RHP Chris Flexen: 5 IP, 9 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, K; Not his finest outing.
- RHP Robert Coles: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K; I have no idea who this guy is or where he came from. *googles* Looks like a 28th round pick from 2013. Got some love in a Mets twitter Q&A here.
Star of the Night
I'll go with Jeff McNeil, who is now hitting a robust .339/.406/.625.
Goat of the Night
I'm going with Wilmer Flores because people say he "has nothing left to prove" at the triple-A level. I disagree. He hasn't hit like someone who deserves to be in the majors. I think he still has a lot left to prove with the bat. He makes a ton of weak contact.
