Final Score: Braves 7, Mets 5—Amazins assault Atlanta pen, come up just a little short

After Bartolo Colon and Ervin Santana left the game, Braves vs. Mets turned into a frenzied battle of collapsing bullpens.

The Mets kept coming in this one, scoring four runs in the final two innings against the Braves bullpen. Unfortunately, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jose Valverde combined to give up four runs of their own, and a nice rebound start by Bartolo Colon resulted in a 7-5 loss for the Metsies.

Daniel Murphy, David Wright, and Chris Young combined for nine of New York's 13 hits, but most of that damage was done after Ervin Santana left the game. The offseason pickup allowed just one run in seven innings while the Braves were paced on offense by who else but Freddie Freeman. A controversial infield single and subsequent Colon error plated a pair for Atlanta in the third. The Bravos scored one more when Freeman laced a rib-eye double in the fifth.

The game appeared to be all sewn up for the road side when Justin Upton scored on a Matsuzaka wild pitch in the eight to make the score 4-1, but the Mets responded with a pair of RBI singles in the bottom of the frame. Upton struck back with a three-run bomb off of Valverde to bring the tally to 7-3, and the Mets rallied to bring the tying run into scoring position in the ninth before finally being retired when Andrelton Simmons threw out Travis d'Arnaud on a  ground ball deep in the hole.
