The Mets played poorly in the series opener against the Braves.
The Mets lost to the Braves in pretty lackluster fashion on Friday night, getting no-hit by Aaron Harang for seven innings as they lost score. Lost in the Mets’ struggle to get a hit was Jon Niese’s strong start. The lefty gave up one run on four hits in six innings with seven strikeouts and three walks.
With the game still close, the Mets got a scoreless frame from Carlos Torres in the seventh, but Gonzalez Germen and Scott Rice combined to give up four runs in the eighth. With that, the Braves turned to the bullpen. Two outs into the bottom of the eighth, David Wright singled to break up Atlanta’s combined no-hitter. Jeurys Familia gave up one more in the top of the ninth before the Mets went down in order to finish the game in the bottom of the ninth.
