Triple-A - Las Vegas 51's (12-3)_______________________________________
LAS VEGAS 6, RENO 0 (Box)
A five run fourth inning and a strong spot start from Dana Eveland carried Vegas to their sixth win in a row. Eric Campbell led the way with three hits while Wilmer Flores and Allan Dykstra provided the firepower, knocking in five runs between the two of them.
- 2B Danny Muno: 2-5, R, K
- LF-1B Eric Campbell: 3-5, 2 R
- SS Wilmer Flores: 2-5, R, 2B, 3B, 3 RBI; First, a triple?! It must have gone something like this. Second, his double went off the top of the wall and was initially ruled a home run. But after a long conference, the umps agreed on a double...
- 1B Allan Dykstra: 2-4, R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, E; ...which was funny because my boy Dykstra crushed the next pitch into oblivion. No walks, though.
- 3B Zach Lutz: 1-5, R, 2 K
- CF Matt den Dekker: 2-5
- C Juan Centeno: 2-4, E
- RF Cesar Puello: 0-4, 3 K; woof
- PH Bobby Abreu: dnp
- RHP Dana Eveland: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K
Double-A - Binghamton Mets (8-4)_____________________________________
NEW HAMPSHIRE 1, BINGHAMTON 4 (Box)
The story in this one was Matthew Bowman, who struck out 11 and needed just 80 pitches to toss seven shutout innings. He allowed just four hits and one walk. The Princeton alum was a fast riser in the Mets system last year--he was promoted to St. Lucie after just five starts in Savannah. He struggled a bit after the promotion but was still able to post good strikeout and walk rates of 8.4 and 2.9 per nine respectively. Reports on Bowman out of college had him sitting 88-91 but able to ramp it up to 94 on occasion. Perhaps his most notable attribute is his delivery, which looks not unlike Tim Lincecum's. Bowman is another interesting arm in the system and it will be interesting to see if this start ends up being an outlier or the start of something special.
- CF Darrell Ceciliani: 3-5, 2 R, 2B, K
- 3B Brian Burgamy: 2-2, 3 BB
- C Kevin Plawecki: 0-3, 2BB, K
- DH Matt Clark: 1-3, 2 RBI
- 1B Jayce Boyd: 0-4, K
- LF Cory Vaughn: 0-4
- 2B Matt Reynolds: 3-4, R
- RF Travis Taijeron: 1-3, R, BB, K
- SS Wilfredo Tovar: 1-4, K
- RHP Matthew Bowman: 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 11 K
Advanced-A - St. Lucie Mets (8-6)________________________________________
ST. LUCIE 6, FORT MYERS 1 (Box)
Steven Matz was completely and utterly dominant in this outing. He didn't allow a baserunner until the fourth and one of the two hits he allowed was a bunt hit towards the slow footed Aderlin Rodriguez at third base. He struck out six, walked one, and allowed no runs. Keep doing this. Brandon Nimmo finally went hitless but did add a strikeout and a walk, the combination of which at this point should just be dubbed "a nimmo".
- SS Dilson Herrera: 1-4, R, RBI
- CF Brandon Nimmo: 0-4, R, BB, K
- 1B T.J. Rivera: 2-5, 2B, RBI
- 3B Aderlin Rodriguez: 0-4, RBI
- DH Cam Maron: 1-4, 2 RBI, BB, K
- 2B Phil Evans: DNP
- RHP Steven Matz: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
Low-A -Savannah Sand Gnats(9-5)__________________________________
GREENVILLE 4, SAVANNAH 0 (Box)
This was a frustrating game for Mets prospect watchers, not just for the zero they put up but for the pitcher who hung it on them. Teddy Stankiewicz was a second round pick of the Mets in 2012 but mysteriously was not signed. It seemed odd to let him go over such a seemingly small sum of money, although I'm sure we are not privy to all of the details surrounding the negotiations. It would certainly sting if Stankiewicz turned into a legit prospect, especially because I'm sure this won't be the last time he faces Savannah. As for the Gnats, let's all cut Dominic Smith some slack. The dude is 18 years-old and is at least making contact.
- SS Gavin Cecchini: 0-4, 2 K
- 3B Jeff McNeil: 2-4
- 2B L.J. Mazzilli: 0-4, K
- LF Jared King: 1-4, K
- DH Stefan Sabol: 0-3, K
- 1B Dominic Smith: 0-3, 2 K
- CF Patrick Biondi: 0-3, K
- RHP Robert Gsellman: 5 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 3 BB, 5 K
- RHP Akeel Morris: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K
Star of the Night
Matt Bowman and his 11 strikeouts get the crown.
Goat of the Night
I'll be a hypocrite and give one horn each to Dom Smith and Gavin Cecchini, who combined to go 0-7 with four strikeouts. Honorable mention to Cesar Puello and his three Ks.
