The Mets defeated the Diamondbacks with ease, though they lost a couple of outfielders to injury in the process.
The Mets opened their three-game series with the Diamondbacks with a victory on Monday night. Arizona score once in the bottom of the first inning to take a lead, but the Mets scored a run in the second and two in the third to take a 3-1 lead.
The Diamondbacks got another run off Zack Wheeler in the third inning, but the Mets scored two in the fifth to extend their lead. They added two more in the eighth for insurance. Wheeler went 6.1 innings, giving up three runs while striking out and walking three. Carlos Torres took over from there and finished the game, allowing a run in the eighth inning but nothing else.
The downside of the game: Juan Lagares and Curtis Granderson left early with injuries. Here’s hoping they each make a speedy recovery.
