The Mets crushed the Diamondbacks tonight in a game that was interrupted in the bottom of the seventh inning by a 101-minute rain delay. Pre-delay, the Mets held a 2-1 lead. Our heroes then tacked on seven more runs after the rain abated, ensuring that the late innings would be stress-free.
Jeremy Hefner continued his stretch of strong pitching, giving up just one run on four hits in seven innings of work. His ERA since June 1st is now 1.70, spanning 37 innings. He has been the Mets' second-best starting pitcher this season.
Every position player in the Mets' starting lineup either scored a run or drove in a run. The biggest hits came from Anthony Recker, whose solo home run in the fifth inning put the Mets on the board, and Josh Satin, whose RBI double in the seventh inning gave the Mets a 2-1 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. That seventh inning saw the Mets score seven runs, thanks to a parade of base hits by players throughout the Mets' lineup. It was the most runs the Mets scored in an inning this season.
