It was mostly another futile week at the plate for the Mets.
The Mets' anemic offense continued to be anemic in the second week of the season. If there's an upside here, it's that their 3.92 runs per game are tied for tenth in the National League. And there are at least a couple of hitters—David Wright and Curtis Granderson—who should be much better hitters than they have been to this point of the young season.
Player | Last Week | This Week | Comment |
---|---|---|---|
Andrew Brown, OF | Brown’s .629 OPS for the week wasn’t great, but most of that came from a .429 OBP. And he made just seven plate appearances. | ||
Travis d’Arnaud, C | It sort of flew under the radar, but d’Arnaud had an .816 OPS this week and hit his first home run of the season. That’s a big improvement from his performance in the first week of the year. | ||
Ike Davis, 1B | When he played, Davis hit .000 with a .267 OBP. That won’t hurt Duda’s playing time, at least in theory. | ||
Lucas Duda, 1B | With a .293/.333/.471 slash line in 18 plate appearances, it was a pretty decent week for the guy the Mets are calling their regular first baseman. | ||
Curtis Granderson, RF | Granderson had a mostly bad week but managed a .370 on-base percentage in six games. With just three hits—one of which went for extra bases—it wasn’t a great week, but at least he avoided making outs. | ||
Juan Lagares, CF | Lagares hit a cool .296/.296/.296, coming down to earth a bit after his monstrous first week at the plate. He’s still playing excellent defense, though. | ||
Daniel Murphy, 2B | Murphy had a couple of doubles but just a .597 OPS in six games. He struck out seven times and did not draw any walks. | ||
Omar Quintanilla, SS | He only made seven plate appearances but had three singles in them, good for a .429 in all three slash categories. | ||
Anthony Recker, C | In six trips to the plate, Recker had a 1.500 OPS and hit the go-ahead and eventual game-winning home run in the Mets’ extra inning victory on Saturday night. | ||
Josh Satin, 1B | Satin only hit .222 with zero walks but managed a .444 SLG, so he avoids the down | ||
Ruben Tejada, SS | It was another dreadful week for Tejada. He can’t possibly be this bad at hitting, can he? | ||
David Wright, 3B | With a .535 OPS for the week, Wright’s slow start continued. He’ll be fine. | ||
Chris Young, OF | Young should be back soon, and he raked in his first rehab game with the Las Vegas 51s. | ||
Eric Young Jr. | With a .379 on-base percentage and six steals without getting caught once, this is the best-case scenario for Young in any given week. |
