Following their thirteen-inning win over the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Mets announced they have recalled 25-year-old right-handed relief pitcher Gonzalez Germen.

Assuming Germen gets into a game sometime soon, he will be making his major league debut. He's posted a 5.70 ERA in Las Vegas, but his 10.1 K/9 and 2.1 BB/9 there suggest that he might be better than his ERA indicates. Before the season, Rob Castellano ranked German 47th on Amazin' Avenue's Top 50 Prospects. Here's what Rob had to say at the time:

Here is a case where I'm inclined to defer to the organization in all of its wisdom. The 25-year-old has moved up the chain thanks mostly to the combination of a very strong fastball and very good command of said fastball — and not a ton else. It's not a mind-blowing profile, but it's also not hard to see him contribute to the big club as bullpen depth very soon, especially given that he was added to a somewhat crowded 40-man roster this winter.

As for the player who will be sent to the minors, the Mets have a few choices: Zach Lutz, Jordany Valdespin, and Kirk Nieuwenhuis. It wouldn't be a surprise if the Mets chose any one of the three.
