The veteran reliever and young infielder are expected to be with the team on Wednesday night.

Following the news that Bobby Parnell has a torn ligament in his pitching elbow and might eventually require surgery, the Mets will call upKyle Farnsworth to take his place. They're also calling up Wilmer Flores, who would take Daniel Murphy's roster spot as he's expected to be on paternity leave.

Farnsworth was originally signed by the Mets in early February on a minor league deal. With diminished velocity in spring training and poor results, he did not make the Mets' Opening Day roster and was given his release shortly before the season, which allowed the Mets avoid paying him a $100,000 retention bonus. A couple of days later, the team re-signed Farnsworth to a new minor league deal.

Flores is a familiar face, of course, and figures to join the Mets briefly before heading back to the Triple-A Las Vegas 51s to hone his middle infield skills. Despite an underwhelming stint with the Mets at the end of last seasons, Flores has a shot at giving the Mets an offensive boost this year if he can capably play an available infield position.

With a full 40-man roster, the Mets will have to make a move to add Farnsworth, unless they plan to put Bobby Parnell on the 60-day disabled list immediately. Flores is already on the roster and won't require a corresponding move.
