Mets general manager Sandy Alderson announced after the team's final spring training game this afternoon that Daisuke Matsuzaka has been reassigned to Triple-A Las Vegas, and it is the team's intent to use Jenrry Mejia as its fifth starter to begin the season.

That's excellent news for the Mets, as Mejia's ceiling this year is significantly higher than Matsuzaka's. Of course, Mejia was hit with a comebacker last night in Montreal, but with X-rays coming back negative, let's hope he makes his first scheduled start this week.

Mejia's stuff has looked as good in spring training as it did in his dominant five-start stint last year. Over those starts, Mejia had 8.89 strikeouts and just 1.32 walks per nine with a 2.30 ERA and 2.46 FIP.
