The 29-year-old lefty will pitch out of the team's bullpen.

John Lannan is officially a member of the New York Mets. The club added Lannan to the 40-man roster today, signifying that he had made the team after a good spring training. He will serve as a member of the bullpen.

The news of is relatively unsurprising, as the Mets have a dearth of left-handed relievers. Lannan could conceivably be used as a long-relief pitcher, as well. He also makes for a good story, as his Long Island upbringing has garnered some attention during spring training.

Entering camp, Lannan was battling with Daisuke Matsuzaka and Jenrry Mejia for a job in the starting rotation. Earlier this week, Chris McShane previewed the Mets' bullpen, and Lannan's projected numbers were largely below league average. These are just projections, though, and Lannan may respond well to the decreased workload.
