Write Mets stories that thousands will read and many will criticize!
Ahoy, Mets fans! The glorious 2014 season is nearly upon us, and we're gearing up for another splendid year of Mets coverage at Amazin' Avenue. In so doing, we've identify staff vacancies and are opening our roster to new writers.
Right now we have a particular need for several news desk writers who can be available throughout the day—in particular during the week—to write reasonably short (150+ words) news pieces on items related to the Mets. These might be big or small breaking news stories, roster moves, signings, or anything else Mets-related. These post are news-y by design, but if you're good enough at commentary and/or analysis we may let you work in some of that as well.
The goal is to bring on talented writers to start at the news desk and groom them to the point where they can "graduate" to featured columns.
News desk writers will be required to:
- Follow a style guide and prescribed style and grammar rules which we will provide.
- Work on a deadline.
- Use your real name on the site (we can change your username for you if you desire).
These positions are unpaid, but if you’re interested in pursuing a career in Internet or sports media, I can assure you that time spent on the editorial staff of SB Nation/Vox Media can look great on a résumé. If you’re merely interested in gaining some experience or giving back to the Amazin’ Avenue community, this is a good opportunity to accomplish both of those things as well.
You can apply here or via the form embedded below. Cover letters and résumés are not required but are strongly encouraged. A sample news post is required with each submission. Good luck!
