Two days after releasing him, the Mets are set to re-sign right-handed reliever Kyle Farnsworth to a minor league deal.
Just a couple of days after releasing him, the Mets will re-sign right-handed reliever Kyle Farnsworth to a minor league deal tomorrow.
More Farnsworth
The Mets had until yesterday to make a decision on Farnsworth, who signed as a free agent with the Mets under Article XX(B). Their choices:
- Promote him to the 25-man roster.
- Pay him $100,000 to keep him on a minor league deal.
- Release him.
The Mets chose option #3. He was hardly a lock for the Opening Day bullpen and, as Sandy Alderson said, “We had determined previously not to pay the $100,000 to keep him with us.”
In eight innings this spring, Farnsworth has walked four, struck out four, allowed ten hits, and coughed up two home runs, all of which have added up to a 5.63 ERA.
