The Washington Nationals and New York Mets meet in Grapefruit League action from Viera, Florida's Space Coast Stadium this afternoon where Ross Detwiler takes the mound for the Nats against their NL East rivals. Unfortunately, there's no radio or tv coverage of today's game.
The Washington Nationals welcome the New York Mets to Viera, Florida's Space Coast Stadium this afternoon for a 1:05 pm EDT Grapefruit League matchup between the NL East division rivals. Unfortunately, there is no radio or television coverage, so unless you're in the Nats' spring home, MLB.com's Gameday box score is your only source of information for updates outside of the Twitter.
Ross Detwiler, 28, makes his third start of the spring today as he competes for the fifth spot in the Nationals' rotation. In his first two outings, the left-hander has allowed 11 hits and five runs, four earned in 3 1/3 IP in which he's struck out four. Detwiler's working on throwing more offspeed pitches this spring, and also experimenting with a cutter. He threw 51 pitches last time out, in a two-inning outing against the Atlanta Braves, after which he told reporters, including the Washington Post's James Wagner, that he's still getting comfortable:
"'I’m not quite there yet with rhythm and all that,' he said. 'That’s something pretty much everybody works on in spring training and you get to the season, you get your stride. So I’m looking forward to the next start.'"
The Nationals' 6'5'' left-hander will have a little more time to work on things this afternoon as his pitch count rises and he builds toward the regular season.
