Curtis Granderson hit two home runs and Zack Wheeler tossed three scoreless innings in his spring training debut to lead the Mets.

The Mets beat a sorry-looking Astros team 6-2 today in Port St. Lucie behind Curtis Granderson's two home runs and Zack Wheeler's three scoreless innings. Granderson took southpaw Astros starter Rudy Owens deep for a two-run home run in the first inning and added a mammoth solo shot in the second inning off Jorge De Leon. On Granderson's home runs, Terry Collins had this to say:

"I hope to see 25 more of those when the bell rings"

25? How about 40?

Wheeler allowed two hits in his three innings of work, striking out three while walking none. He needed just 40 pitches and was hitting the mid-90s on the radar gun. The Astros radio announcer calling the game said that Wheeler once spent 30 hours straight playing the video game "Call of Duty" this offseason. Maybe it will aid his concentration.

Chris Young notched an RBI double in the first inning and Brandon Nimmo added an RBI single in the sixth inning. Nimmo subbed for Young in center field before the sixth. Travis d'Arnaud went 2-for-3. Jonathan Villar hit a two-run home run off Erik Goeddel to account for the Astros' runs.

The Mets play two split-squad games Wednesday: Jenrry Mejia starts against the Nationals in Viera, while Dillon Gee faces the Marlins in Port St. Lucie. SNY will have Mets-Marlins at 1:10 pm.

Nice job by Steve Sypa; his effort in the gamethread embiggens us all.
