There are a couple of changes to SNY's Mets coverage this season.
SNY announced today that Gary Apple, who previously served as a host of "SportsNite," will host their pregame and postgame Mets studio coverage in 2014 alongside analyst and former Mets pitcher Bob Ojeda. That hosting role was formerly filled by Chris Carlin, who will remain with SNY as host of "SportsNite" and "Loud Mouths."
Meanwhile, with Kevin Burkhardt set to take over as host of FOX's national pregame and postgame festivities, he will occasionally be replaced on SNY by Steve Gelbs.
Gelbs, like Apple, has experience hosting "SportsNite" and has a chance to win over fans with his sarcastic sense of humor.
Other than those two changes, SNY's Mets coverage should operate in much the same way it did a year ago. Bobby Valentine and Jim Duquette are once again tabbed to pop in and out as semi-regular contributors, while Gary Cohen, Ron Darling, and Keith Hernandez return to call the game action from the broadcast booth for their ninth season together.
