The 30-year-old veteran will likely serve as bullpen depth.
With a lot of youthful pitchers projected to pitch out of the Mets' bullpen this season, GM Sandy Alderson has been eager to tack on veteran depth. Already we've seen Jose Valverde and Kyle Farnsworth latch on with New York. Next up is the left-handed Dana Eveland.
The 30-year-old Eveland has reportedly agreed to join the Mets on a minor league contract with no major league spring training invite. Since breaking into the big leagues with the Brewers in 2005, Eveland hasn't stuck in one city or in one role for too long. He's bounced around through Arizona, Oakland, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles (NL), and Baltimore before pitching for the Hanwha Eagles in Korea last season.
A career ERA+ of 77 is pretty dreadful, but Eveland's left-handedness as well as his ability to pitch out of both the rotation and the bullpen make him a mildly intriguing wild card. He'll likely start the season at Triple-A Las Vegas.
