The Mets beat the White Sox as Shaun Marcum threw eight scoreless innings—easily his best start of the year—and the team plated three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Marcum struck out just two opposing hitters, but he only gave up four hits and issued two walks.
Josh Satin got things started in the three-run fifth with a single, and he aggressively took third base on an Andrew Brown single. Brown moved to second thanks to Satin's baserunning, and both runners scored when Alexei Ramirez made an error on a hard Juan Lagares ground ball. Lagares came around to score on an infield single by Eric Young Jr., a play that could have been ruled an error on Chicago's third baseman.
To top off all of those good things, Bobby Parnell notched a one-two-three inning to close out the win. And the Mets' defense was fantastic, especially on three plays by Omar Quintanilla.
