Your Thursday morning dose of New York Mets and MLB news, notes, and links.

Meet the Mets

On Day 1,760 of the Stephen Drew saga, Scott Boras intimated that Drew would be willing to play positions besides shortstop, possibly making him more appealing to teams like the Red Sox and Yankees. Meanwhile, the Mets are still offering Drew only a one-year deal, but one GM believes they will end up offering him a two- or three-year deal.

The Mets current shortstop, Ruben Tejada, will not go to arbitration as he and the Mets agreed to a one-year, $1.1 million deal.

Former Met Valentino Pascucci has returned to the organization, filling the role of Single-A Savannah's hitting coach. Pascucci is on Twitter, @PoppaValentino.

Daisuke Matsuzaka is still a possibility to be signed by the Mets.

Around the Majors

Clayton Kershaw received a long overdue payday, as he signed a 7-year, $215 million extension with the Dodgers, making him the highest paid pitcher in MLB history. The contract has an opt-out after five years, possibly allowing Kershaw to pursue another big contract at age 30. If he doesn't opt out, Kershaw will make a combined $65 million in 2019 and 2020. The 25-year-old ace has won two NL Cy Young awards and finished second to R.A. Dickey in 2012.

Dave Cameron of FanGraphs argues that Kershaw is actually underpaid with his new contract. Marc Normandin suggests that the influx of TV money into MLB has made long-term pitcher contracts less risky.

Despite already paying four starters close to $60 million, the Dodgers still have interest in Masahiro Tanaka, with Bronson Arroyo as an alternative.

The Rangers have reached out to free-agent starter Paul Maholm.

The OriolesgaveAlfredo Aceves a minor-league deal.

The Angels have contactedMatt Garza.

Brad Penny is making a comeback, as he and the Royalsagreed to a minor-league deal.

ESPN announced it's Sunday Night Baseball schedule for the first half, and unsurprisingly, the Mets will not be featured.

MLB is still ironing out the details of its new replay system, but reviews of the "neighborhood play" will not be happening.
