R.A. Dickey had his best start since the end of June as the Mets beat the Diamondbacks to earn a split of their four-game series in Arizona. Dickey struck out eight, walked three, and allowed just one unearned run in seven innings.
The Mets' hitters provided more than enough offense, and they got started with a two-run first inning thanks to a pair of RBI doubles by David Wright and Scott Hairston. The Mets tacked on a run in the fifth on a Hairston single, and they added another in the sixth on Daniel Murphy's thirty-second double of the season.
Arizona got its lone run in the bottom of the sixth on a Paul Goldschmidt single, but the Mets answered with a run in the top of the eighth on a Josh Thole double.
Jon Rauch and Bobby Parnell threw the eighth and ninth inning, respectively, without much incident to preserve the victory.
We knew it was over when...
Dickey took the mound with a two-run lead in the first inning.
What else?
- Andres Torres went 2-for-3 and scored twice.
