The pitcher will turn 29 years old in April and has limited major league experience.

The Mets have claimed right-handed relief pitcher Ryan Reid off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has thrown just 11 innings in Major League Baseball, all of which came in the 2013 season for Pittsburgh. In that very limited span of time, Reid pitched to a 1.64 ERA and 4.32 FIP.

Over the span of eight seasons in the minors, Reid has a 3.87 ERA with 9.0 strikeouts, 3.7 walks, and 0.5 home runs per nine innings. In his time in Triple-A this year, he had a 2.73 ERA and 3.35 FIP. According to Brooks Baseball, Reid throws four pitches: a four-seam fastball, sinker, changeup, and slider. The fastball averaged 92.9 miles per hour in his time out of the Pirates' bullpen.

Reid joins a mix of arms contending for spots in the Mets' Opening Day bullpen. Of the group, only Bobby Parnell has a significant major league track record.
