The Mets were rumored to have interest in the veteran relief pitcher.
Right-handed relief pitcher Chris Perez is close to a deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to the Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. Earlier this month, the Mets were rumored to have interest in the former Cleveland Indians closer.
Perez posted an unimpressive 4.33 ERA in 2013 thanks to an alarming home run rate of 1.8 per nine innings. He was much more effective between 2010 and 2012, though the 2010 season was the best of his career. At the age of 28, he might have been a good fit for the Mets, who could use another veteran arm or two in addition to Bobby Parnell next season.
With Perez off the board, there are still quite a few relief pitchers on the market, but not all of them are ideal options.
